Note: the Level 1 is limited to netlists of 1000 physical pins and does not support automatic component placement, gate-swap optimization, partial power planes (including cut-outs) or rip-up and retry autorouting. These features are only available in Level 2 and above.

What is Proteus PCB design?

Proteus PCB design combines the ISIS schematic capture and ARES PCB layout programs to provide a powerful, integrated and easy to use suite of tools for professional PCB Design..

All Proteus PCB design products include an integrated shape based autorouter and a basic SPICE simulation capability as standard. More advanced routing modes are included in Proteus PCB Design Level 2 and higher whilst simulation capabilities can be enhanced by purchasing the Advanced Simulation option and/or micro-controller simulation capabilities.

The products are offered at a number of levels which offer increasing levels of functionality and design capacity.

ISIS schematic capture

ISIS lies at the heart of the Proteus system, and is far more than just another schematics package. It combines a powerful design environment with the ability to define most aspects of the drawing appearance. Whether your requirement is the rapid entry of complex designs for simulation and PCB layout, or the creation of attractive schematics for publication, ISIS is the tool for the job.

ARES PCB Layout – high performance PCB design system with automatic component placer, rip-up and retry auto-router and interactive design rule checking.

The ProSPICE Simulator

All versions of Proteus include a copy of ProSPICE, our mixed mode SPICE circuit simulator. ProSPICE is based on Berkeley SPICE3F5 with extensions for true mixed mode simulation and circuit animation.
ProSPICE is offered at two levels. The basic SPICE simulation supports interactive simulation only, whilst the Advanced Simulation option enhances simulation capabilities by providing a full range of graph based analyses including frequency, fourier, distortion, noise and multi-variable AC/DC parameter sweeps.

Limitations of the Demonstration Version

The Proteus Professional demonstration is intended for prospective customers who wish to evaluate our professional level products. It does not allow you to save, print or design your own microcontroller based designs (you can however write your own software programs to run on the existing sample design suite for evaluation), but does include all features offered by the professional system including netlist based PCB design with auto-placement, auto-routing and graph based simulation.
